Whats that movie called with mel gibson?

Does anyone remember this movie? I watched this movie when i was little. Mel Gibson was the main character and he was sent back to fight in the vietnam war.Gibson was the lieutenant or someone like that. And his wife had to give all the letters to the ladies who lost their husbands in war. That's all i remember lol. Hope this helps
