Why would Jesus Christ 'only' dying a bodily death be ineffectual?

We are made in the likeness of God, a trinity of sorts. Spirit, Soul and Body. The body is only one part of our being. Think of taking your car into a shop after an accident. If the only repairs xons are body work, neglecting the engine repair, you would still have an inoperable, ineffective mode of transport.
