Is Zantac an H2 histamine blocker a normal protocol for children for allergies.?

My Granddaughter 4yrs has been taking Zyrtec for her allergies, a allergist put her on Zantac saying it was a H2 histamine blocker, and maybe the two together will help her. is this a normal protocol for possible food allergies?
