Just found out my second cousin has lung cancer. How do I deal?

I am very upset. He is only in his early 50s and we are very close. He is the only second cousin who doesn't treat me like (pardon the expression) a at a family reunion. How do I deal with this? I would be devastated should he p away young. I'm crying right now as I write this.
