Why don't people like Nic Cage?

My favorite actor is Nicolas Cage but all my friends say he is super bad. Like i don't get it, he has an incredible amount of acting prowess demonstrated in awesome movies like Next and Bangkok Dangerous and 500 Days of Summer. All my friends hate him and can only talk about Mumford and Sons and Seth Rogen's drugs. Can anyone explain why my friends are thinking this way?
